Welcome to the Grand Hotel, built in 1886 on the site of the original harbour in Cardiff . Quickly after its opening the Grand Theatre was built next door in 1887. The Hotel was a popular haunt with sporting societies, and was frequented by Cardiff Cycling Society who held smoking concerts, where cyclists smoked while listening to music. By 1893 it was used to provide accommodation for visiting sporting teams to the city, and by 1894 was a well established sporting hotel.
