With more than a thousand bars, pubs and nightclubs lining the sun-soaked sand, Benidorm is a non-stop party from the moment you hop off the plane.
Benidorm in a nutshell
- Scorching beaches and ice-cold pints
- Theme parks and thrill rides on the Mediterranean
- High-rise hotels and rock-bottom prices
Dirt-cheap prices aren’t the only reason party animals flock to this sun-kissed corner of the Costa Blanca.
A buffet of bars cement Benidorm’s infamous reputation for nightlife, and you don’t have to wait until the sun goes down for a fiesta, with a bevvy of beach bars pouring pints around the clock. The world-class roller coasters, high-speed drops and slippery slides of the Terra Mitica theme park and the Aqualandia water park will shake off your hangover, as will the smorgasbord of adrenaline-pumping stag activities on the Mediterranean — water sports like cable-skiing , wakeboarding, jet boating, fly-fishing, and banana-boating are especially exhilarating.
Perfect weather and two golden beaches explain why Benidorm is one of Spain’s most popular holiday destinations. Towering skyscrapers, high-end hotels and a blanket of blue parasols shade the sand of Levante beach, while on the other side of the jaw-dropping Balcón del Mediterráneo viewpoint, Poniente beach is a quieter spot to catch some rays before hitting the bars. The tapas joints that line the Old Town’s cobbled streets dish up a taste of traditional Spanish cuisine, but international flavours and all-day fry-up breakfasts are never far away around English Square.
With endless sun, sand and sangria, Benidorm boasts more bars than even the thirstiest stag do can handle.
Benidorm spans two long beaches hugging the Costa Blanca, but lively Levante is party central.
Levante beach is the hub of Benidorm, brimming with bars, pubs, cafes, restaurants, sky-scraping hotels and, of course, that sizzling strip of sand. English Square — the intersection of Avenida de Mallorca and Calle Gerona two blocks back from the beach — is ground zero for stag dos, surrounded by the city’s rowdiest nightspots.
Over on the western side of the Old Town, Poniente Beach is a much quieter affair — a smart place to recover from a hangover before saddling up for another big night. Most resorts flank Levante rather than Poniente, meaning crowds here are smaller. The rainbow-coloured promenade snaking along the sand is a particularly chilled-out stroll.
Occupying a hill where a castle used to stand between Benidorm’s two beaches, the Old Town’s scenic centrepiece is the Balcón del Mediterráneo — a glistening white lookout offering unspoiled views over the Mediterranean. Above it, cobblestoned laneways are crowded with old-school tapas bars serving authentic Spanish cuisine.
Rincon de Loix*
At the craggy eastern end of Levante beach lies Rincon de Loix, a modern area made up of more high-end resorts. These upscale hotels boast their own glamorous bars and sun lounges peering over Levante, all just five minutes’ walk from the sand.
