The stunning Costa Brava region of Spain is home to exciting coastal resorts of Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar. If you're looking to relax on a beach by day and party by night, then this is definitely the place for you.
The Highlights
Party in Lloret De Mar
Known for being the liveliest resort on Costa Brava, it is packed full of fun and late night entertainment including watersports and huge beaches. You’re spoilt for choice with over 100 bars, casinos and some of the hottest beachside clubs where you can drink, dance and party until the early hours of the morning.
Explore Tossa De Mar
Tossa de Mar is the smaller of the two locations with narrow streets bursting with traditional sangria, Spanish beer, hidden bars and restaurants and amazing shops along narrow cobbled pathways. Quieter of the two, it’s still a party town with a lively atmosphere.
Drinks on the beach
Big and beautiful, small and secluded, and everything in between with well-kept sand, sea and surf. Start the day drinking in the sun with several bars along the beachfront or take the party to the water with a party cruise or speedboat ride.
For the best view of the city
Have dinner and drinks at Bar Cala Banys. Considered the hidden gem of the town, you can sit back and relax with a beer or cocktail while admiring the serene views of the nearby beach, clear water and palm trees.
Lloret de Mar’s sand and sea are a dream
OVERVIEW:
There are some lovely walks in Lloret de Mar. But let’s face it, that’s not why you’ll be visiting the sun, sand and sea capital of the Costa Brava is it? Just 47km from Barcelona, Lloret de Mar isn’t particularly cultured or cool and it doesn’t care. This is the Spain of wild party bars, watersports and miles of beautiful, clean beaches. It can be relentless and it’s not big on early nights and kale smoothies but if you want to play all day and night this is definitely the place to be. And if it gets too much, you can always go for one of those nice, scenic walks.
GETTING AROUND:
Lloret De Mar itself is fairly small, and can be traversed easily by foot. In fact, this is recommended – you’ll be able to soak up the sun and discover those little out-of-the-way treasures for those who are willing to explore a little! At least it’s better than sweating yourself dry on a crowded bus!
MUST SEE/ MUST DO:
• In October, for three days, Spain’s rally car championship comes to Lloret De Mar! • Check out the English Basilica in the town centre for some fantastic architectural delights! • Vamos a la playa! (Get to the Beach!)
HISTORY AND CULTURE:
Lloret de Mar’s main attractions lie in it’s beautiful surroundings – just an hour from Barcelona, situated on the Costa Brava, it is surrounded by acres of forests and wilds, perfect for those who fancy an escape from the busy town centre. Fishing is one of the main incomes for the town (aside from its huge tourist income), and the people of the town are very friendly and welcoming to visitors. There’s a lot of fishing traditions, including a local superstition that if you touch the foot of the famed ‘Fisherman’s wife’ statue, while looking out at the horizon, then all your wishes will come true! There is a very laid-back aspect to the town, with a lot of traditional eateries, as well as loads of friendly bars where you can relax in the morning after a long night of clubbing.
NIGHTLIFE:
You won’t find better nightlife anywhere on the Costa Brava! Lots of tourism has brought some of the biggest clubs and promoters to the pumping coastal resort, and during the summer months, you’ll find lots of reps for the top clubs thrusting free tickets at you to get you in! One of the top clubs in the area is Tropics, which features two dance floors and five bars, with some of the most impressive laser shows you’ll ever see – a true meditteranean clubbing experience ! There’s something for everyone, no matter what your vice happens to be – there are casinos, clubs, bars and pubs. There are tons of places with live music, flamenco, and cabaret – you’re completely spoilt for choice!
EATING OUT:
Being a seaside town, the seafood is delicious – all freshly caught and prepared by local chefs, and there’s a massive selection to boot! Being a tourism hotspot, there’s also plenty of places to enjoy food from all walks of life, ranging from some good old British pie and chips, to more exotic cuisines such as Indonesian, European and obviously, traditional Spanish fare. There are also dinner shows at some of the local hotels, with many showcasing some great cabaret and flamenco shows!
