Planning a stag do? There’s a lot to organise and only so many hours in the day. To make it easier, we’ve handled the research so you can do the drinking.
Alongside over 25 years experience in organising stag dos all over the world, we commissioned an independent study of 4,738 stag groups over the last two years, tracking every time a group flagged a destination as "cheap" or "great value." We cross-referenced that with data from hundreds of thousands of real bookings - tracking actual costs by location - as well as 2026 travel fares, pint prices, and the cost of a decent meal out. Finally, we ran the full results past our own stag experts to ensure every destination on the list is actually fit for a legendary send-off.
The result? The best-value stag locations in the UK, ranked - where your money goes furthest without the weekend suffering for it.
Our Top Picks
Our two lowest-cost stag do locations are perfect for a budget stag that still brings big laughs, great nights and proper bragging rights for the groom-to-be.
What You Need To Know
The pattern in our data was clear: student cities consistently come out on top. Venues in university towns compete hard for footfall at weekends with better deals, more offers, and cheaper drinks.
Manchester and Newcastle are joint #1. Both deliver world-class nights out at prices that make London look like a different country, but they suit different squads:
Newcastle is the one if your group wants maximum atmosphere and minimum spend - cheap rounds, legendary Toon hospitality, and everything within walking distance.
Manchester is the one if your group wants variety - music, sport and food that rivals the capital, without the capital prices. It's also the most accessible city in the UK, making it the smartest choice when you're herding 13 lads in from different corners of the country.
Can't decide? Flip a coin. You won't regret either.

Tips for Saving Money
Book early. Accommodation prices go one way. Lock it in early, get better rates, more choice and less stress.
Pick activities that include food or drinks. Beer tasting and comedy nights often come with food or drinks built in. You're spending money anyway - make it work harder.
Pre-book everything you can. Fewer surprises on the day, and spreading payments across the group in advance means nobody's out of pocket.
Sort the kitty rules upfront. Agree it covers beers and basic mixers. Cocktails and shots are personal spend. One conversation before the weekend saves three awkward ones during it.
Book stag-friendly accommodation. Random party houses come with surprise security deposits and noise restrictions. Getting turned away for being a stag group means paying last-minute prices for somewhere that'll take you. Every accommodation option on Chillisauce is stag-friendly and vetted - no nasty surprises on arrival.
The Full List
All costs are per person. Accommodation is per person, per night.
Joint #1: Manchester
Manchester is one of the most vibrant cities in the UK and consistently cheaper than London - our data backs that up. The nightlife is world-class, the food scene is brilliant, and there's enough variety to keep every type of stag happy. The nightlife spreads across a few areas - Deansgate for the big bars, the Printworks for clubs, and the Gay Village on Canal Street for a livelier crowd - and the Peaky Blinders Bar is a repeat favourite with stag groups. As one of our stags put it: "Perfect city for a stag - much more affordable than the South of England." A top choice for music, sport and daytime activities that keep the energy high before a big night out.
Average Cost Breakdown (Per Person):
Accommodation: £86.36 | Activity: £36.66 | Drinks package: £25.08 | Meal: £29.35 | Bar crawl: £28.02 | Pint: £6.00
Joint #1: Newcastle
Newcastle is one of the UK's great stag destinations - and it's cheaper than you'd think. The city centre is so compact you can walk between the main nightlife spots in under 15 minutes, which means zero spent on taxis all weekend. Those spots run from the Bigg Market and the Diamond Strip on Collingwood Street for the big bars and clubs, down to the Quayside by the river for something more relaxed. Drinks are consistently among the cheapest of any major UK city - our data puts them at around 35% less than London prices. The locals are used to stag groups and genuinely welcoming. As one of our 4,738 surveyed stags put it: "Why bother with Amsterdam or Prague when you've got a place like the Toon." And when the night winds down? There's always a Greggs open for sausage rolls instead of kebab prices.
Average Cost Breakdown (Per Person):
Accommodation: £69 | Activity: £35.59 | Drinks package: £21.39 | Meal: £25 | Bar crawl: £25.48 | Pint: £5.00
#3: Leeds
Leeds is one of the UK's great student cities - walkable, easy to get around and with a bar scene that genuinely rewards exploration. It's also home to the Otley Run, arguably the most famous pub crawl in the country and a stag do in itself. As one of our stags put it: "Otley Run was fantastic, bars, pubs and clubs were great." Our surveyed groups consistently rated Leeds for value, variety and the kind of friendly atmosphere where a large group never feels unwelcome. Student pricing keeps drinks affordable, and with everything within walking distance, what you save on transport you can spend on another round.
Average Cost Breakdown (Per Person):
Accommodation: £69.77 | Activity: £35.48 | Drinks package: £22.67 | Meal: £28.16 | Bar crawl: £25.97 | Pint: £5.50
#4: Newquay
Newquay is unlike anything else on this list. Swap the city centre bar crawl for surf, coastline and activities on your doorstep, and you've got a stag weekend that feels completely different - and costs less than you'd think. Fistral Beach is the hub - surf and body-boarding by day, then a session at the beach bar; as one stag put it, "the views and beaches were world class." Its pint is among the cheapest on our list at £4.50 - level with Leeds and Nottingham - and because it's not a late-night city, you naturally spend less on drinks without even trying. One catch: trains to Cornwall get expensive fast. Book 12 weeks out and you'll be fine. Leave it late and you'll feel it.
Average Cost Breakdown (Per Person):
Accommodation: £66.94 | Activity: £46.52| Drinks package: £38.58 | Meal: £30.63 | Bar crawl: £34.30 | Pint: £4.50
#5: Bournemouth
Bournemouth gives you that abroad feeling - beach, sun, proper seaside energy - without the flight costs or the airport faff.
Activity providers are so densely packed along the coast, you'll pay less on activities than the UK average. And unlike a city break, the beach is free - which matters when you're splitting costs across a big group. There's crazy golf out on the pier, Boscombe's a short hop east for a quieter beach, and the bars are cheap and plentiful once the sun goes down. As one of our surveyed stags put it: "Like being abroad when at the beach. Could easily spend a week there."
Average Cost Breakdown (Per Person): Accommodation: £83.18 | Activity: £36.54 | Drinks package: £27.55 | Meal: £29.66 | Bar crawl: £28.48 | Pint: £5.00
#6: Liverpool
Liverpool is our Nightlife Top Pick - and it's not close. Its live music scene rivals London's but without the London prices. The city centre is so walkable a large group can realistically spend nothing on transport all weekend. It clusters into a few areas you can walk between: Matthew Street and the Cavern quarter for live music, the buzzing central square and its "strips" for the big bars and clubs, and Albert Dock for a more laid-back waterfront drink. The locals are welcoming, the bars are stag-friendly and the nightlife runs until 6am. As one of our groups put it:"Well done Liverpool, you've set massive standards that other cities around the UK are miles away from."
Average Cost Breakdown (Per Person):
Accommodation: £87.42 | Activity: £36.40 | Drinks package: £27.44 | Meal: £39.30 | Bar crawl: £31.44 | Pint: £5.00
#7: Nottingham
Nottingham is the solid all rounder nobody expects to love - and nobody forgets. As one of our stags put it: "I had my doubts when Nottingham was chosen for the stag weekend, but a lively, friendly city. Great choice of bars and pubs." It's walkable, student-priced and genuinely welcoming to stag groups. The bar scene has more variety than cities twice its size - from rock bars to real ale pubs to late-night clubs - and everything is within walking distance. Safe, fun, no faff.
Average Cost Breakdown (Per Person):
Accommodation: £72.97 | Activity: £36.18 | Drinks package: £26.63 | Meal: £29.60 | Bar crawl: £28.96 | Pint: Pint: £4.90
#8: Birmingham
Birmingham is the dark horse of the UK stag scene - and the data backs it up. It topped our 'plenty to do' and 'foodie' charts, meaning more activities and better restaurants than anywhere else on this list, without the London prices. The canal district is the standout - bars, restaurants and an atmosphere that consistently surprises first-timers. Broad Street is the lively main strip for bars and clubs, and more than one group wished they'd spent both nights down by the canal. As one of our stags put it: "Great stag location, everything in one place, great atmosphere - underrated." Also the most central city in the UK, which makes getting everyone there on a Friday night considerably less painful.
Average Cost Breakdown (Per Person):
Accommodation: £74.94 | Activity: £34.91 | Drinks package: £20.32 | Meal: £26.41 | Bar crawl: £23.94 | Pint: £5.25 Birmingham stag do
#9: Bristol
Bristol is the vibrant alternative - harbour views, a European vibe and a bar scene that keeps surprising you. The harbour area is the standout: bars, restaurants and waterside drinking that regularly makes stag groups feel like they've left the UK entirely. King Street is the other must - a short cobbled stretch of craft-beer pubs the locals call the "Beermuda Triangle".
One honest note: accommodation is the highest on this list, so book early and you'll get the best of what Bristol has to offer. As one of our stags put it: "Like London but better. Not many cities as good as this for a night out."
Average Cost Breakdown (Per Person):
Accommodation: £97.30 | Activity: £37.44 | Drinks package: £22.06 | Meal: £25.22 | Bar crawl: £24.58 | Pint: £5.80
#10: Cardiff
Cardiff is the Stag Do Mecca - and it knows it. No other city on this list is more purpose-built for a stag weekend. Bars everywhere, locals who genuinely embrace large groups, and everything within walking distance. St Mary Street is the pedestrianised main strip where most of it happens, Mermaid Quay down in Cardiff Bay makes a change of scene, and Chippy Lane (Caroline Street) sorts you out on the walk home. As one of our surveyed stags put it: "Perfect for a stag weekend. Bars and clubs everywhere. No drama with getting in with big groups." The nightlife runs late, the atmosphere is electric and Cardiff consistently delivers - rain or shine. Wales' capital by day. Stag capital by night - and the locals love it.
Average Cost Breakdown (Per Person):
Accommodation: £88.92 | Activity: £36.50 | Drinks package: £21.69 | Meal: £23.86 | Bar crawl: £22.44 | Pint: £5.50
Notable Mentions
These destinations didn't make the top 10 but deserve a look - especially if the main list is booked out or you want something a little different.
Blackpool - The original UK stag destination. Unapologetically bold, brilliantly cheap and guaranteed to deliver stories the group will be telling for years. One stag summed it up: "Brilliant fun. A few dodgy characters but good bars and food." Don't overthink it.
Glasgow - Some of the lowest meal and bar crawl costs on our entire list, and a city that genuinely loves a visiting stag group. Underrated and worth serious consideration. As one put it: "Rough round the edges but lovely people. Very cheap drinks."
Swansea - A coastal alternative to Bournemouth with lower accommodation costs and a relaxed vibe. If the beach is the priority and budget is tight, Swansea delivers. As one stag put it: "Great city, lots of bars and clubs and reasonably priced drinks and food."
And one worth knowing: simple averages don't tell the whole story. Our Stag and Hen Industry Report, which analysed nearly a quarter of a million participants, actually ranks places like Newcastle and Newquay among the most expensive UK destinations on paper. But once stag groups were there, they consistently rated them as the best value - because cheap pints, walkable cities and stag-friendly venues make your money go further in ways a package price can't capture. Some of the cheapest pints in the UK are in places like Wrexham or Burnley - but our experts removed destinations where stag groups aren't welcome or the infrastructure simply isn't there to handle them. Price is only part of the picture. What stag groups actually told us about value, cross-referenced with real costs like the price of a pint, a meal out and travel - and vetted by experts who know which destinations genuinely welcome a stag group - matters more than any average. That's the whole point of this article.
How To Plan a Great Stag
- • Don't stress the numbers. Get the key people to agree a date, then get it booked. You'll only really know who's coming once the deposits are in - and worst case, you can change the date for free later.
- • Do your research. Browse destinations, activities and accommodation. An hour now saves a headache later.
- • Fix the date. Give everyone plenty of notice. The earlier you confirm, the easier it is to save up and book time off work.
- • Book early. Prices only go one way. Lock in accommodation and activities before they disappear.
- • Name a treasurer. One person handling payments avoids every awkward money conversation that would otherwise happen on the night.
- • Then relax. It's done. Enjoy the build-up.

Methodology
We combined Chillisauce's booking data with trusted third-party sources including Numbeo to compare everyday costs - a pint, an inexpensive meal, a night out. Our accommodation figures come from over 81,000 stag bookings, while average prices for meals, nightlife and drinks packages reflect feedback from hundreds of thousands of customers.
To rank destinations fairly, we analysed responses from 4,738 stag groups who recently visited these cities. Rather than counting raw mentions, we calculated the percentage of visitors who described a destination as cheap - so popular cities didn't automatically overshadow smaller ones.
We also factored in travel, accommodation, food, drinks and activity costs. Our stag experts reviewed the shortlist, removing destinations where recent price changes had skewed value and places that weren't properly set up to handle stag groups - because cheap means nothing if you spend the night getting turned away at the door. Lesser-known spots that genuinely delivered were added. An external agency independently analysed the data throughout.

Frequently Asked Questions
Based on our 2026 data, Manchester and Newcastle come out joint top, followed closely by Leeds, Newquay and Bournemouth. If you're looking beyond the top 10, Swansea and Blackpool are worth serious consideration.
Our Stag and Hen Industry Report also identified some surprising value in less obvious destinations. Based on average per-person package costs, the five cheapest UK destinations were:
- London - £115.48 per person (the huge variety of accommodation and activities creates genuine value if you know where to look)
- Reading - £116.62 per person
- Norwich - £117.30 per person
- Sheffield - £118.10 per person
- Oxford - £123.71 per person
Interestingly, the same report ranks places like Newcastle and Newquay among the most expensive UK destinations on paper - yet stag groups consistently rated them as the best value once they were there. Cheap pints, walkable cities and venues that actually welcome stag groups make your money go further in ways a package price alone can't capture. That's precisely why our top 10 is based on what stag groups actually told us, cross-referenced with real costs like the price of a pint, a meal out and travel - and curated by our team so you have the best time.
Both are popular stag destinations with similar overall costs. Cardiff edges it on drinks and activities, but Bristol's harbour area offers strong value for food and accommodation. Both made our top 10 for good reason.
Newcastle is significantly more affordable. Our data puts drink prices around 35% cheaper than London, and because the city centre is so compact, you'll spend nothing on taxis all weekend - a saving London simply can't match.
Group train bookings and minibus hire tend to be the most cost-effective. Book early and travel off-peak where possible. Manchester is the most accessible city on our list - straightforward to reach from anywhere in the UK, which matters when you're coordinating 13 lads from different parts of the country.
Based on our 81,000+ stag bookings, accommodation averages between £69 and £87 per person per night depending on destination. For context, our 2025 Stag and Hen Industry Report puts the total all-in cost of a UK stag weekend at £300-£410 per person - covering accommodation, activities, drinks, meals and transport. Book early for better rates and more choice.
Self-guided pub crawls, city walking tours and park games are easy wins. Beach destinations like Newquay and Bournemouth also give you a full day's entertainment for nothing - the sea is free.
Based on our booking data, most activities fall between £35 and £47 per person. To put the full picture in perspective, our industry report tracked average per-person spend across nearly a quarter of a million participants - it's risen from £152 in 2022 to £217 in 2025, reflecting a shift toward quality experiences. The average stag weekend now costs £200.36 per person on the booked package, with a typical group of 13 spending £300-£410 all-in over a 3-day weekend.
Newquay and Nottingham serve up some of the cheapest pints on our list, both around or under £5 - noticeably below the £5.50-£6 you'll pay in Manchester or Bristol. It's one of several reasons Newquay earns its place despite being a coastal destination with higher activity costs.
It can be. Our industry report found the average international destination costs just £37 more per person than a UK destination on the booked package - but once you add flights, the true premium is £137-£337 per person. UK cities also mean nobody has to take a day off for travel.
Cardiff is often called the stag capital - it's purpose-built for it, with more stag-friendly venues per square mile than anywhere else in the UK. Newcastle runs it close, and our data puts both at the top for atmosphere and value.
